Director of Public Sector Sales

Join Automattic's WordPress VIP team as the Director of Public Sector Sales and lead the growth of our public sector business. You will develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy, mentor a high-performing sales team, and build strong relationships with government agencies. This role requires proven leadership experience in public sector sales, a deep understanding of government procurement processes, and a track record of achieving growth targets. You will report to the Chief Revenue Officer and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The position offers a competitive total compensation package and the opportunity to build out the strategy and organization to support our move into the public sector in other international markets. We are a fully-remote company with an open vacation policy.
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience building, leading, and nurturing high-performing sales teams
- Demonstrated experience working with federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as public sector companies; and understanding of the unique requirements, procurement processes, and regulations (such as security, accessibility, and data privacy) associated with selling to government entities
- Proven track record establishing and maintaining strong relationships with government agency partners
- Proven ability to engage directly with government officials, executives, engineers and technical teams in order to sell complex technical products using a consultative, solutions-based selling approach
- Proven track record of achieving growth targets (both as a sales leader and as an individual), building and managing sales funnels, executing solutions-based selling, negotiating terms, and closing deals
- Strong presentation and executive engagement skills

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy for the public sector, including the US federal, state, and local government markets
- Collaborate with marketing, product management, and technical teams to develop compelling value propositions and tailored solutions for the public sector
- Lead and mentor a high-performing sales team including recruiting, hiring, and training
- Provide support and mentorship to your team by participating and leading in client and prospect meetings
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with government agency partners
- Report on sales activities and forecasting to senior sales management
- Engage at the C-level in public sector organizations
- Drive the strategic growth of WPVIPβs Public Sector customer base outside of the United States, and into additional markets
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) and web-related technologies is desired
Benefits
- Total Compensation (OTE): $370,000β$440,000 USD (includes base plus commission)
