Graduate Research Assistant

Summary

Join the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) and contribute to impactful research on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) nonproliferation. This on-campus or remote position involves working on databases, website publications, and analytical briefs. You will assist with geolocation of WMD facilities, develop country profiles, and collate images while adhering to copyright restrictions. The role also includes developing case studies and maintaining a WordPress site related to trading compliance. GRAs gain valuable on-the-job training and may pursue their own research. The position is hourly, typically 10-15 hours per week, with a starting wage negotiated based on experience and is renewable based on performance.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in MIIS classes
• Be located in the U.S
• Possess excellent writing and analysis skills
• Possess general knowledge of WMD nonproliferation issues
• Possess knowledge of and experience in conducting scholarly research

Responsibilities

• Work on databases, website publications, fact sheets, and analytical issue briefs
• Geolocate WMD facilities worldwide
• Develop country and entity profiles
• Collate images of missiles and other WMD-relevant objects while tracking sources and copyright restrictions
• Develop case studies of illicit trade and procurement based on court cases etc
• Maintain and provide content for a WordPress site related to trading compliance (export controls, sanctions, etc)
• Contribute to ongoing projects
• Pursue your own research in related fields
