Join Tailor Law as a Law Clerk and become an integral part of a dynamic, fully remote legal team in Mississauga. This role involves handling all stages of the family litigation process, from client intake to trial preparation. The ideal candidate possesses 3–5 years of law clerk experience in family and divorce law, strong knowledge of relevant rules and software, and excellent communication skills. Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Law Clerk program
- 3–5 years of direct Family and Divorce Law clerk experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of the Family Law Rules and DivorceMate
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and experience with legal software (e.g., Clio, PCLaw, WillBuilder, Estate-a-base) is an asset
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and file organization
- Ability to prioritize and work independently in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage files independently
- A client-first mindset with demonstrated emotional intelligence and professionalism
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with lawyers on all stages of Family and Divorce Law files (Applicant and Respondent)
- Draft, prepare, file and review court documents: Form 8s, financial statements, motion records, affidavits, case and settlement conference briefs
- Organize and maintain continuing records and endorsement volumes
- Coordinate disclosure processes, track deadlines, and support trial preparation
- Manage correspondence with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and third parties
- Conduct basic legal research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Family Law Rules
- Attend to e-filing, service, and issuance of documents with relevant courts
- Maintain electronic file systems and docket time accurately
- Provide empathetic and professional communication with clients
- Appear in court or alternative dispute resolution settings as needed
- Conduct client consultations, assessments, and ongoing communication with empathy and professionalism
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timely delivery of legal services
- Engage in firm-building initiatives including case reviews, mentorship, or business development
Preferred Qualifications
Technologically adept; experience with [LEAP, Lawmatics, Clio, etc.] is an asset
