Nurse Field Experience Coordinator

Summary

Join Walden University as a Nurse Field Experience Coordinator and contribute to the success of nursing students by overseeing their practicum and field experience processes. This full-time position within the College of Nursing involves reviewing and approving field sites and preceptors, maintaining student files, and collaborating with university administrators and external agencies. You will also provide guidance and support to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring a smooth and enriching practicum experience. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, a current RN license, and experience in nursing, particularly in clinical practice and diverse organizational environments. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree Required , preferably in the health or human services area
• RN Licensure required, must be active and unencumbered
• Experience in nursing that includes:  an understanding of the clinical practice of nursing, students, and knowledge of the diverse organizational environments in which nurses practice
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and verbal communication, detail-oriented, multitasking, and organizational skills
• Excellent customer services skills
• Excellent time management skills with an ability to set and meet deadlines
• Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking as well as the ability to work independently
• Ability to independently work with faculty and graduate students at a distance
• Ability to anticipate future trends and problems and plan for them accordingly
• Ability to learn Walden’s administrative database and software systems
• Successful experience working in a team setting
• Demonstrate proficiency in operating Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

• Review and approve field sites and preceptors submitted on practicum applications to ensure the site and preceptor meet practicum course requirements
• Perform outreach to preceptors to assist with Field Experience systems & programs
• Process and maintain student Field Experience files, Field Experience applications, preceptor information and field placement site information
• Work in partnership with university contract administrators and serve as an initial affiliation agreement liaison between university and outside practicum agencies
• Assist specialty coordinators and field experience faculty in resolving student problems arising out of the practicum experience following the established communication system and direction of the supervisor
• Assist in developing and maintaining communications about practicum experience policies and procedures to students, academic advising, program directors, and faculty/specialization coordinators
• Assist in managing and administering student evaluations to monitor student practicum progress and satisfaction
• Communicate with students via phone and electronic methods to counsel and advise students across nursing programs on Field Experience information, requirements, policies and procedures
• Assist in maintaining Field Experience resources (e.g. manual, website, webinars, etc.) outlining the mission, purpose, and objectives of the field experience as well as a description of all Field Experience policies and procedures
• Prepare, complete and maintain reports, files and documentation in a timely and accurate manner
• Assist in training and mentoring new team members
• Assist in identifying and developing new initiatives to increase student satisfaction through the practicum experience
• Work in partnership with Field Experience staff members as a team member to accomplish Field Experience goals
• Attend meetings and participate in professional development programs as requested
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Nurse Field Experience Supervisor and/or the Director of Operations of Field Experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in health related field preferred
• Experience in the area of academic or other student advising is preferred
• Experience in an online distance-learning environment is preferred
• Experience working with graduate students in an educational environment is preferred
