Payroll Specialist

Summary

Join Business Wire as a Payroll Tax Specialist, responsible for handling all payroll tax-related functions, processing biweekly and off-cycle payrolls in a multi-state environment, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, and utilizing Workday and ADP Smart Connect.

Requirements

• 7+ years of payroll experience
• Experience processing multi-state payroll tax in Workday
• Proficiency with Workday and ADP Smart Connect
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Proficient with Workday payroll software

Responsibilities

• Handle all payroll tax related functions
• Process biweekly and off cycle payrolls in a multi-state environment
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws
• Utilize a 3rd party vendor for payroll processing
• Assist with processing international and US payrolls for exempt and non-exempt employees
• Review and resolve payroll tickets in Jira
• Research payroll issues
• Administer payroll tax compliance requirements across all companies
• Work directly with tax agencies to open or close tax accounts as needed
• Make corrections to Business Wire state/federal tax profile setups with tax service
• Maintain tax service dashboard and resolve tax or garnishment discrepancies
• Review and submit tax notices to tax service
• Process quarterly tax returns or late originals as needed
• Balance and remit payroll taxes for bi-weekly payroll runs
• Process ‘lock-in’ letters received from IRS
• Collect, verify, and record employee attendance, including hours worked
• Execute year-end processing including reconciling and verifying all box totals, earnings, and deductions
• Answer tax calls from Employees and tax agencies

Preferred Qualifications

• US and International payroll experience
• Jira Ticketing system is a plus
