Summary

The job is for a Project Engineering Manager with BESS for a contract opportunity. The role involves managing BESS projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, providing engineering input, managing equipment vendors, performing electricity tariff analysis, and more. The position is remote with monthly site visits to Poway, CA and pays between $70 - $90 per hour based on experience.

Requirements

  • Extensive technical experiences on energy storage projects (ideally, 3-5 years)
  • Deep understanding of EE power systems, BESS protection studies, Electrical Drawings Review, and utility-scale BESS use cases
  • Proficiency working with current AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel software versions, as well as MS Office suite
  • Willingness to travel, at least 30% of the time
  • Experience with AutoCAD (or equivalent)
  • Experience with BESS performance modeling tools (preferably PVSyst)
  • Knowledge of BESS plant design and optimization
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
  • Proficiency in project engineering and planning
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with structural, electrical, geotechnical, environmental, and civil Professional Engineers during design process to assure the design meets technical and code requirements
  • Provide engineering/technical input and direction to site evaluation and characterization, permitting, power purchase agreements, interconnect agreements, testing and commissioning, financial modeling, and other project development aspects
  • Review specifications for purchases of materials or equipment
  • Manage and work closely with equipment vendors to identify technical challenges and create innovative solutions
  • Provide on-going technical support to project construction team during construction of BESS, PV, and wind systems
  • Perform electricity tariff analysis, electricity bill analysis, and load versus energy generation analysis
  • Perform site visits and inspect BESS systems under construction to confirm they are being built according to the plans and in compliance with all codes, standards, and SSI specifications
  • Review and respond to submittals and RFIs from subcontractors and EPC partners
  • Participate in onsite quality inspections & punch-list generation to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with NEC, operational, and safety standards
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference for technical experience with utility scale BESS in CAISO
