Reporters in Residence

Summary

Join Omidyar Network's Summer 2025 Reporters in Residence program, designed for freelance journalists to produce in-depth reporting on the digital landscape. The program provides resources and support to create impactful stories. Up to five participants will focus on key areas like inclusive technology design, market competition, technology's impact on workers, open-source AI, and tech governance. Selected reporters will publish approximately one piece per month. The program runs from July to December 2025, offering a monthly stipend of $8,000 and a $2,000 travel budget. Applications are open from May 1st to May 30th.

Requirements

• Passion for covering technology and the digital revolution for a diverse array of audiences
• Actively working as a freelance journalist (with clips from the past 12 months) in any medium of reporting
• At least five years of published reporting experience, though a college or secondary degree is not required

Responsibilities

• Individually develop, pitch, and publish approximately one piece per month related to their core topic area for the duration of the program
• Attend at least one in-person gathering at Omidyar Network’s offices in either Washington, DC or Redwood City, CA
• Individuals that are unable to travel will be asked to join in convenings virtually
• Check in on a regular basis (~ twice per month) with Omidyar Network team
