Based ideally in Houston, TX, but with remote options, you'll play a vital role in our financial operations. This multifaceted position involves preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, ensuring GAAP compliance, and collaborating with external auditors. You'll manage a staff accountant, oversee month-end/year-end close processes, and contribute to improving our accounting systems. Requirements
- Previous experience as a lead, senior accountant, or staff accountant with team lead experience
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures & accrual accounting
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Prior experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and reports
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and bank statements
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Keep abreast of tax laws and internal policies and procedures
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory agencies
- Verify, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Explain month over month financial statement fluctuations
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Manage Staff Accountant
- Prepare financial statements
- Assist with state sales tax reporting and external audits to ensure compliance
- Take lead on month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principals
- Run payroll and ensure compliance with state payroll tax requirements
- Manage customer invoicing and collections
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Bill.com , and or Expensify
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
