Summary
Join a leading specialty insurance carrier in Bermuda as a Senior Accountant. This key role involves managing and overseeing the company's financial activities, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic financial insights. You will lead the preparation of financial statements, oversee month-end and year-end processes, and conduct detailed financial analysis. The position requires strong leadership, mentoring, and technical accounting skills, including IFRS and US GAAP expertise. This is a permanent, full-time, work-from-home position with a schedule of 9 PM to 6 AM Manila time.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) as an accountant, with experience in the insurance industry
- Proven expertise in insurance accounting, including underwriting, claims, and regulatory compliance
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and insurance-specific accounting requirements
- Solid experience in financial reporting, budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of managing and developing finance teams
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools (e.g., MS Dynamics, AP, Oracle, Xero, or similar platforms)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership
- A proactive, results-driven approach with the ability to drive financial performance and process improvements
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS or other relevant accounting standards
- Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data
- Provide detailed financial analysis, including performance variance analysis, cash flow management, and financial forecasting to support decision-making
- Ensure the integrity of financial records, maintaining compliance with local and international accounting regulations, as well as insurance industry-specific requirements
- Manage and optimize accounting processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices for operational efficiency
- Oversee tax compliance and assist with the preparation of tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate submission in line with tax laws and regulations
- Lead the coordination and completion of external audits, liaising with auditors and ensuring that all audit requirements are met
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as underwriting, claims, and product development, to ensure alignment of financial reporting with business operations
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior members of the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Support the Finance Manager / Financial Controller in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting processes
- Monitor and manage financial risks, ensuring the business remains compliant with financial regulations and best practices
- Contribute to the development of financial strategies that align with the companyβs goals and objectives
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IFRS 17 (Insurance Contracts) is a significant advantage
- Experience working in a start-up or fast-growing environment within the insurance sector
- Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly desirable
