Summary

Join NovoEd as a Senior Accountant and play an integral part in all aspects of accounting operations for a high-growth startup. This highly visible role offers opportunities to work on various projects as the company scales. You will perform monthly and quarterly close processes, including accounts receivables and payables, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management. Responsibilities also include preparing and processing payroll, creating and sending customer invoices, assisting with tax and compliance filings, and implementing accounting policies and internal controls. You will prepare monthly reporting packages, conduct variance analysis, and assist with revenue recognition. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with strong communication and systems skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
  • 4-6 years of experience required, including general ledger, payroll, AP/Accruals, and month-end close responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 606
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong drive to grow and succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth start-up environment, which can be fast-paced and deadline-driven
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and flexibility to switch from one task/project to another quickly

Responsibilities

  • Performing the monthly and quarterly close processes, including
  • Accounts Receivables and Payables
  • Payroll
  • Fixed Assets and Prepaids
  • Cash Management and Bank Recons
  • Accruals
  • Processing journal entries
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll. Set up and maintain employee records in the payroll system. Prepare related journal entries and reconcile payroll-related GL accounts
  • Create and send out customer invoices, collect customer invoices, and meet with the Financial Manager regularly to discuss past due invoices and expected payments
  • Assist with various tax and compliance filings, including sales tax,1099 reporting, and benefits compliance testing
  • Help document, implement, and maintain appropriate accounting policies, processes, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements; suggest and implement improvements to scale and automate manual procedures and computations. Assist with systems implementation and automation efforts across the finance department
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for Management
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative variance analysis and report monthly and quarterly for presentation to management
  • Assist in the review of customer contracts and determining appropriate revenue recognition treatment
  • Administer the following systems: Expensify (for employee expense reimbursements), Bills.com (A/P), TriNet (payroll/employee records), Fidelity (401K contribution deposits)
  • Special projects, reports, and analyses on an ad-hoc basis as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (active or intending to pursue licensure) is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online or Netsuite, Box/DropBox, Bill.com, TriNet, and/or Expensify is a plus
  • Strong knowledge in Excel
