Summary
Join Contact Energy, a leading energy company in New Zealand, as a Management Accountant for a 6-month fixed-term contract. You will play a key role in the Finance & Risk group, contributing to better decision-making and enhancing the customer experience. This dynamic role blends commercial accounting and storytelling, requiring you to manage operational expenses, build relationships, and run the budgeting and forecasting process. You will also be responsible for financial reporting and analysis, communicating key insights to investors and leadership. The position offers a mix of remote and in-office work options, with a focus on collaboration and impactful contributions. The ideal candidate is a CA-qualified accountant with strong analytical and communication skills, experience in financial planning, and a passion for storytelling.
Requirements
- Be CA-qualified or equivalent
- Possess advanced knowledge of accounting systems (preferably SAP)
- Have a high degree of proficiency in Excel
- Be comfortable evaluating and improving processes and controls within a complex commercial environment
- Be comfortable communicating to various levels of management, with a knack for conveying complex information simply
- Have experience in financial planning, analysis and reporting
- Thrive in accountancy roles that go beyond the norm and have plenty of stories to share about times youβve delivered exceptional service to stakeholders
- Have deep curiosity and a knack for storytelling alongside the numbers stuff
- Be able to pull a variety of people and data together and understand and translate complex information
- Have the initiative to lead and investigate things by yourself
Responsibilities
- Manage operational expenses (opex) for Corporate areas (Finance, HR, Corporate Affairs, etc)
- Coordinate and build and maintain strong relationships with the business to facilitate strong understanding of business activity
- Run the budgeting and forecasting process (coordinating this with our 5-year plan)
- Interpret, understand and report on financial performance, succinctly telling the story of the business back up to investors and executive leadership
- Manage month-end accounts and reporting
- Perform reconciliations and asset settlement
- Prepare budgets and forecasts
- Provide day-to-day financial support for budget owners
- Analyze forecasts vs. actuals and feed this information to relevant decision makers
- Cover project/capital reporting as well as business units and cost centres
Preferred Qualifications
- Have experience in a large, complex private organisation
- Have experience within the Energy industry
