Summary
Join EBANX, a leading payment platform connecting global companies with customers in emerging markets, as a Country Manager for Nigeria. You will be responsible for optimizing existing partner relationships, educating merchants on best practices, and managing payment partners in the Nigerian market. You will also collaborate with internal teams to deploy payment solutions, negotiate with partners, and represent EBANX at conferences. This role requires experience in fintech, payments, and financial services, particularly in cross-border payments, along with deep knowledge of Nigeria's payments infrastructure and regulatory landscape.
Requirements
- Experience in fintech, payments, or financial services industries, with preference for cross-border payment experience
- Experience working with international companies and adapting global solutions to Nigerian market requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to convey complex payment concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder management experience, particularly with financial institutions, payment partners, and regulatory bodies
- Deep knowledge of Nigeria's payments infrastructure, including bank transfers, card schemes, mobile money platforms (including those using USSD), and emerging payment technologies
- Experience engaging with Nigerian regulatory entities such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and understanding of relevant financial regulations
- Proven track record in building and managing strategic partnerships in the Nigerian financial services ecosystem
- Thorough understanding of forex regulations and cross-border payment mechanisms in Nigeria
- Strong business acumen with analytical capabilities to identify growth opportunities in the Nigerian market
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and lead initiatives with minimal supervision
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with payment partners and service providers
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to bridge communication between Nigerian stakeholders and EBANX's global teams
- Experience managing merchant relationships in relevant verticals such as e-commerce, streaming, SaaS, or online services
Responsibilities
- Optimize existing partner relationships to ensure access to all relevant payment methods and enhance their performance
- Educate merchants on best practices and market trends related to e-commerce in Nigeria and West Africa more broadly
- Management and discovery of payment partners (PSPs, Banks, Acquirers, FX and Liquidity Providers, etc.) in Nigeria and validate offerings and capabilities with internal cross-functional teams
- Leverage local ecosystem knowledge to identify the best-fit partners
- Coordinate with internal teams to understand, deploy and operate relevant payment solutions with partners in Nigeria, focusing on bridging language and cultural differences between our core team in Brazil and other parts of the world
- Collaborate with Africa Expansion Director on all negotiations: MDRs, FX, promotions, campaigns, driving all P&L levers for merchant activation in the Nigerian market
- Collaborate with GTM teams to define target verticals, anchor brands, educational materials, and regular frontline team sessions specific to the Nigerian market
- Represent EBANX as a local expert at internal and external conferences in Nigeria
- Clearly articulate our regional value proposition, differentiators, and roadmap
- Contribute Nigerian market expertise to studies, benchmarks, analyses and thought leadership initiatives
- Act as a local payments consultant for Nigeria, analyzing live merchants' checkout flows and providing optimization suggestions from the perspective of a Nigerian consumer
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the Nigerian payments ecosystem, including regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and industry associations
- Travel within Nigeria and globally as required for company goals
