Summary
Join Indivisible as their Director of Major Gifts! Reporting to the National Development Director, you will spearhead major gifts fundraising, aiming to achieve ambitious annual targets. This role involves cultivating and stewarding major donors, building a robust pipeline, and prospecting new donors. As a key member of the leadership team, you'll contribute to developing and executing fundraising strategies, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting philanthropy. This is a remote, full-time position with a minimum annual salary of $100,000, commensurate with experience. Candidates located in CA, DC, or NY metro areas are preferred. The position requires significant experience in major gifts fundraising and managing teams.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 5 years of professional experience in major gifts fundraising, donor relations, or related roles, with a proven track record of successfully developing and executing fundraising strategies and securing five- and six-figure gifts
- Experience working with donors in democracy reform, grassroots organizing, civic leadership and civic education, and/or progressive political spaces. Please specify the amounts raised and the size of the portfolio in relevant previous positions
- Superior writing skills, with the ability to quickly synthesize detailed program information to produce compelling donor-facing materials in Indivisible’s concise, straightforward voice
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect authentically with donors from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Strong organization, project management, and collaboration skills, with experience setting up robust systems and processes, including prospect research, donor pipeline development, and moves management
- Previous experience managing a diverse team, with proven ability to recruit, retain, and develop diverse talent
- Cultural humility, including the ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively across lines of difference, as well as foster a positive and inclusive team culture
- Fluency in donor management systems, fundraising software, and tools, e.g., Salesforce, and iWave
- Alignment on the core values and strategy of Indivisible
Responsibilities
- Lead Indivisible’s major gifts fundraising strategy to cultivate, steward, and grow our portfolio of 200+ donors
- Build strong relationships with and lead stewardship for existing major gift donors, including onboarding of new donors, personalized mail, electronic, and in-person communications; Develop new relationships, as well as retain and upgrade existing donors
- Design & implement tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for major donors, including regular meetings, communication, events, and other engagement activities throughout the year
- Manage donor relationships on behalf of Indivisible’s co-executive Directors and other front-line fundraisers, including organizing trips and donor meetings. Engage program staff and senior leadership in stewardship efforts
- Develop compelling pitches, case statements, and donor-facing communications tailored to individuals’ interests
- Organize 3-4 donor-facing events annually; identify donor engagement opportunities at other Indivisible/movement events
- Meet aggressive annual goals over $ 3.5M + while maintaining sustainable growth year over year
- Drive creative prospecting tactics to research, qualify, and engage new major donor prospects ($2,500+)
- Manage wealth research platforms; stay informed on emerging opportunities and trends in philanthropy
- In partnership with the National Development Director, engage the Board, senior leadership, partner organizations, and other stakeholders to facilitate introductions to new prospects and expand Indivisible’s donor network
- Help develop annual revenue goals; prepare regular reports to the Executive Team and Board on performance
- Ensure major gifts fundraising is aligned with Indivisible’s fundraising philosophy, which seeks to ensure our strategic independence is not influenced by donor priorities that don’t align with our strategy
- Track successes and challenges of the major gifts program and make recommendations for improving its effectiveness, including by proposing new fundraising initiatives, experiments, and/or creative projects
- Prioritize knowledge management, ensuring all major donor data is properly stored and maintained in Salesforce. Develop and streamline processes to execute moves management
- Manage two direct reports on the Major Gifts team, supporting them in achieving high performance and professional growth at Indivisible
- Responsible for personnel processes and decisions within the team, such as hiring to fill vacancies
- Support the development department to continue to build a strong, inclusive team culture, serving as a thought partner to the National Development Director and helping to implement opportunities for connection and support
- As a part of Indivisible’s senior team, contribute to a positive organizational culture by representing and embodying a culture of mission orientation, excellence, learning, and positivity
- Offer expertise and experience during critical work periods (all hands on deck) to achieve organization-wide goals
- Collaborate effectively across departments within the organization
- Coordinate closely with the digital team to track, qualify, and upgrade mid-level donors with higher capacity ($1,000-2,500)
- Occasional travel for in-person meetings as needed, including team retreats and external/donor meetings
- Lead one-off fundraising projects related to major donors
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within organizations that have a 501(c)(4), a PAC, and a 501(c)3 strongly preferred
- At least 1 cycle of campaign experience in a finance or organizing role strongly preferred
