Join Xpansiv as the Director of Market Operations and lead the 24/7 operations team supporting client participation in North American wholesale electricity markets. You will define team goals, create operational processes, and resolve problems to support Xpansiv's growing client portfolio. Collaboration with clients, product, and client service teams is crucial for geographic service expansion. The position requires a strong technical background and significant experience in the electric power sector.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training or experience in Engineering (power system operations and/or electric generation operations), Economics, or related discipline
- 8+ years of experience in North American electric power sector
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to grid operations
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a grid operations or technical support role
- Minimum of 5 years in a people management role
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the APX 24x7 Operations team to support client participation in wholesale electricity markets across all North American ISOs
- Develop, coordinate and drive the operations plans and establish/update procedures for maintaining high standards of operations to ensure that services and processes conform to established customer and company standards
- Set and clarify requirements and expectations for direct reports based on the strategic direction and needs of the business
- Develop and implement training programs to ensure that the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge
- Provide oversight, guidance, and mentorship for operations team
- Oversee and lead the development of requirements, documentation and readiness of real-time personnel, processes and technologies required to successfully integrate changes associated with ISO changes, new client requirements, and service/geographic expansion (e.g.., new services in PJM, SPP, etc)
- Respond and provide input to inquiries from outside agencies including NERC and FERC
- Define required strategies, technology solutions, and organizational structures to meet company, customer and market expectations proactively
- Develop and deliver operations protocols for clear and concise communications both up, down, and sideways across the organization
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and internal teams
- Provides subject matter expertise and an operations perspective to Power Solutions Product and Client Services teams in the development and formulation of long and short-range strategic planning, policies, programs, and objectives
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide timely updates on issue resolution
- Attend industry/business meetings to understand ISO and customer changes and requirements to develop "best practices" policies and procedures
- Work closely with Human Resources to lead the team with integrity and to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment that promotes employee wellbeing, engagement & quality of life
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PJM market operations and regulations
- Deep understanding or working knowledge of demand response, energy storage, or VPP (Virtual Power Plant) operations
- Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
- Excellent leadership and management abilities with experience coaching and developing others
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex materials and concepts
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Highly detail oriented and organized
- Capability to work remotely/virtually across time zones with various groups and cultures
Benefits
- Base Salary Tier 1: $170,000-$190,000
- Base Salary Tier 2: $160,000 -$180,000
