Summary
Join onX as the Director of Vertical Marketing – Backcountry and lead go-to-market efforts for the onX Backcountry app. You will develop and execute a growth strategy, build and lead a high-impact marketing team, launch and optimize marketing initiatives, leverage data for decision-making, and communicate performance clearly to stakeholders. This role requires 10+ years of growth marketing experience, a bachelor's degree or equivalent, and strong leadership skills. The position offers a competitive salary ($156,000-$190,000), comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for growth within a fast-growing, dynamic company. Work can be performed remotely from various onX locations, including corporate offices and Basecamps.
Requirements
- 10+ years of growth marketing experience, with a proven track record of scaling brands and driving measurable results
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- A results-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for driving growth and innovation
- A deep understanding of digital marketing, including customer acquisition, lifecycle marketing, and brand strategy
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing high-performing teams
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to work across multiple departments and influence stakeholders at all levels
- A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX
- Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp
Responsibilities
- Develop & Execute a Growth Strategy – Partner with the GM of Backcountry, Product Manager, and CMO to define and implement a marketing strategy that attracts, engages, and retains users while driving business growth
- Build & Lead a High-Impact Team – Recruit, mentor, and develop a best-in-class vertical marketing team that is data-driven, agile, and focused on continuous improvement
- Launch & Optimize Marketing Initiatives – Collaborate with Customer Experience, Creative, Brand Marketing, Marketing Automation, User Acquisition, and Product teams to develop integrated campaigns that drive awareness and engagement
- Leverage Data to Drive Decision-Making – Use insights from market trends, customer behavior, and performance metrics to refine strategy and identify opportunities for impact
- Communicate Strategy & Performance with Clarity – Provide stakeholders at all levels with a clear, data-driven view of Backcountry’s marketing performance, key initiatives, and growth opportunities
- Shape the Future of Backcountry Marketing – Identify emerging opportunities and shifts in consumer behavior to ensure onX remains at the forefront of human-powered outdoor recreation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in both startup and growth-stage environments
- Having a strong personal passion for human-powered recreation is a plus
