Summary
Join Owkin as the Head of Data Delivery and lead a large team in delivering data for AI-assisted biomedical research and clinical development. You will manage data engineers, bioinformaticians, data stewards, and data analysts, overseeing a petabyte-scale repository of multi-modal biomedical datasets. This key leadership role reports to the VP of Engineering and involves defining and implementing the data delivery strategy, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality datasets, and managing data ingestion from a federated network. You will also develop a highly automated, cloud-based technical environment, implement self-service solutions, and contribute to the company's overall data strategy. This position offers the opportunity to build and grow a state-of-the-art team and FAIR data platform, based in Paris, Nantes, London offices or remotely in France or the UK.
Requirements
- Be passionate about revolutionizing life sciences through AI and data
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or related fields with 3+ years in management roles
- Deep understanding of biomedical data structures, formats, and standards
- Strong background in managing complex data ecosystems and engineering teams
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Expertise in data governance, security, and compliance in a regulated environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts to various stakeholders
- Strong project management skills with ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives
- Be fluent in written and spoken English
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a large team of data engineers and data experts focused on building the data assets of the entire company
- Define and implement the data delivery strategy for R&Tech, aligning with organizational goals and ensuring the integration of digital, data, and technology across the research lifecycle
- Ensure timely delivery of AI-ready datasets with consistent quality to Owkin researchers and customers
- Manage a petabyte-scale repository of multi-modal biomedical datasets
- Raise AI-readiness (interoperability, quality, and code-readiness) of data through an evergreen, systematic program of improvement
- Develop a highly automated, cloud-based technical environment for data engineering and analysis
- Manage data ingestion from a federated data network including academic medical centers, clinical research organizations (CROs), and laboratories
- Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data to industry standards such as ISO 27001 and GxP
- Provide reporting and analysis of data availability and quality to business and scientific stakeholders
- Implement self-service solutions and technical strategies to improve data accessibility and efficient data management
- Strong internal client orientation-managing client relationships, onboarding, and ensuring SaaS solutions meet client need
- Contribute to the company's overall data strategy and vision
- Oversee the design, implementation, and delivery of data platforms, analytics tools, and digital solutions to support drug discovery, clinical development, and translational research
- Oversee data delivery work packages as part of multiple concurrent Owkin and customer projects
- Establish and maintain data quality standards and performance metrics across all projects
- Drive continuous improvement in data processing pipelines and workflows
- Support Owkin's data acquisition team in evaluating and onboarding new datasets
- Support the delivery of data assets to Owkin customers and internal users, including resolving quality issues and other customer feedback
- Work closely with Owkin's business development team to align data capabilities with business opportunities
- Collaborate with R&T engineering, data science, and project management teams to deliver projects
- Partner with Owkin's platform engineering & security teams for infrastructure and cybersecurity support
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare data ecosystems
- Experience with multi-modal data integration (imaging, genomics, clinical data)
- Knowledge of GxP, GDPR, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations
- Background in life sciences or healthcare industry
- Experience delivering data solutions in a federated or distributed environment
- Track record of implementing innovative data architecture solutions
- Familiarity with AI/ML workflows and requirements for data preparation
- Familiarity with pseudonymisation, synthetic data and disclosure control
