Instructional Designer

Summary

Join Flatiron School as a contract Instructional Designer and contribute to the development of engaging learning experiences for our diverse student body. You will play a key role in the product lifecycle, ensuring educational products align with our technical curriculum framework and applied learning assessments. This part-time (up to 20 hours per week) contract position requires a strong background in instructional design and experience with Canvas LMS and Cidi Labs DesignPLUS. You will collaborate with our team to create accessible and effective learning materials for adult learners in the tech industry. The position offers competitive hourly compensation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of instructional design experience
• Strong Canvas LMS experience
• Strong Cidi Labs DesignPLUS new sidebar update experience
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Ensure educational components within curricula ladder up to outcomes at every stage of the project
• Integrate instructional design best practices in content development processes for technical courses
• Develop content with accessibility standards, WCAG AA
• Utilize backwards design, considering applied learning and assessments to measure the effectiveness of technical modular courses
• Design learning that reflects an understanding of the diversity of career changing adult learners, including the demonstrated understanding of cognitive and/or cultural differences that may apply
• Integrate adult learning theory and cognitive load theory to develop interactive content pages into practical, application-based learning strategies
• Communicate effectively for different audiences in visual, oral, and written form

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a technical discipline - software engineering, product design, cybersecurity, or data science
