Summary

Join Samsara as an Engineering Manager II and lead our Full-Stack Platform Team, driving innovation in customer-facing experiences and platform services. You will oversee the development of scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly backend and frontend ecosystems. Partner with cross-functional teams to shape technical vision and strategy. This is a remote position based in the UK; relocation assistance is not provided. You will impact industries by building software, firmware, and hardware that improves safety and efficiency. The role requires leadership, collaboration, and a passion for developer experience.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years leading full-stack or platform teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Full-Stack Expertise: Proficiency in both frontend (React, TypeScript, CSS) and backend (Node.js, Python, or Go) technologies, with experience designing scalable and maintainable systems
  • Platform Engineering & API Design: Strong background in building reusable services, SDKs, and APIs that serve multiple product teams, with a deep understanding of RESTful and GraphQL architectures
  • Cloud & DevOps: Experience with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and CI/CD automation to enable rapid iteration and deployment
  • Software Architecture: Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and database technologies (SQL & NoSQL)
  • GraphQL: Proficient in using GraphQL for efficient data fetching and API design, with a working knowledge of integrating GraphQL in mobile and web environments
  • Performance & Security: Deep understanding of web performance optimizations, caching strategies, observability, and security best practices

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the platform engineering strategy aligned with Samsara’s product roadmap, ensuring scalability, reliability, and high developer velocity
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers across multiple locations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture
  • Drive the development of scalable full-stack infrastructure, ensuring robust APIs, frontend frameworks, and backend services for seamless product development
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop shared services, tools, and frameworks that accelerate development velocity across Samsara’s web and mobile applications
  • Ensure high reliability, performance, and security across the stack by implementing best practices in testing, monitoring, observability, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Oversee the development lifecycle from planning to deployment, following Agile methodologies to ensure timely and efficient delivery
  • Champion best practices for API design, authentication, service orchestration, and frontend architecture to create a seamless developer experience
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience: A proven ability to scale and manage diverse engineering teams and foster a high-performance culture
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering and non-engineering teams
  • Experience in SaaS & High-Scale Systems: 5+ years working in SaaS software development, especially for large-scale, high-traffic applications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Passion for Developer Experience: Experience improving developer velocity through tooling, documentation, and platform enhancements
