Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or a similar role, with a focus on Canadian and international payroll management
  • Experience working in a tech startup environment with a high degree of ownership and adaptability
  • Deep understanding of Canadian HR laws, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) coordination, employment regulations, and tax compliance. Ability to advise on policy matters
  • Hands-on experience managing onboarding for employees and contractors, ensuring smooth and compliant processes
  • Comfortable using various HR tech systems such as Rippling, Deel, Asana, Notion, Slack, and similar tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
  • Experience with global payroll systems across multiple international jurisdictions
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to build rapport with employees and contractors across diverse cultures and locations. Able to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • A genuine passion for people, talent, and creating a great company culture

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage payroll for all employees across Canada, as well as international contractors, ensuring accurate and timely payments and tax compliance
  • Facilitate and manage the onboarding process for new hires across Canada, the US, and international locations. Ensure new hires have a seamless transition into their roles
  • Maintain and update Canadian-specific HR policies, labor laws, and the employee handbook to ensure compliance with the latest regulations and best practices
  • Streamline HR workflows, reduce manual efforts, and implement tools and systems to optimize efficiency and enhance the employee experience
  • Take ownership of day-to-day HR operations, ensuring a positive employee experience. Conduct regular check-ins with employees and contractors to identify pain points, gather feedback, and provide necessary support
  • Organize company-wide events, celebrations, and recognition programs to foster employee engagement, morale, and team cohesion
  • Work closely with other teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, and Security) to ensure alignment on HR processes and compliance needs
