Senior Staff Accountant

Summary

Join Newsela as a Senior Staff Accountant and play a key role in the accounting organization. You will be a key contributor to month-end close, financial reporting, internal controls, and scaling accounting operations. This role involves driving process improvement in month-end close, financial statement preparation, and management reporting. You will have an immediate impact by analyzing revenue, software capitalization, and financial reporting processes. The position offers the opportunity to make a real impact by streamlining operations and improving the quality of the close process and internal controls. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting
• 3+ years in public accounting, made it to senior in public accounting OR 3+ years in corporate accounting on a CPA track
• Accounting experience with strong technical accounting, audit, and internal controls skills, ideally with Big 4 and/or public company experience
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and internal controls, and have experience working with NetSuite
• CPA designation, or are actively working towards one
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, are very organized and detail oriented, and thrive on process improvement

• Be a leader on the team driving process improvement to our month end close
• Drive process improvement to financial statement preparation
• Drive process improvement to management reporting
• Dig into our revenue, software capitalization, and financial reporting processes
• Drive process improvement and system implementation efforts to streamline operations and improve the quality of the close process and internal controls
• Enable quality reporting and accounting operations that support the growth of our business
• Ensure the sound operational scale of our business, enabling the expansion of Newsela’s reach and bringing engaging, culturally responsive learning content into the hands of K-12 students and teachers nationwide

• Base compensation: $78,000 - $90,000
