Job description

Senior Development Manager

Location: Cambridge, UK or remote with regular travel to Cambridge

Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience

Basis: Permanent; full-time, part-time or flexible

Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK

The role

We are looking for an experienced senior fundraising professional to join our team to lead the development of long-term, high-value funding partnerships that enable the Raspberry Pi Foundation to advance our global educational mission.

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Development and working closely with the Chief Executive and other members of the leadership team, you will be responsible for developing partnerships with some of the world’s leading technology companies and foundations that share our mission to democratise computing education. You will also have the opportunity to lead bids for contracts for educational services. While this role is based in the UK, you will be working with partners all over the world to build support for our work globally.

Following the successful IPO of our commercial subsidiary in June 2024, the Foundation has established an endowment that funds around half of our expenditure each year, with the other half made up from a combination of restricted and unrestricted grants, sponsorship, and contracts for educational services. We are fortunate to have a strong and growing community of organisations and individuals who share our mission and support us through funding and in-kind support.

The ideal candidate will have several years experience of fundraising and development for charities with national or international reach. You will have a proven track record of building high-value, long-term partnerships. You will be an excellent communicator, able to convey genuine passion for our mission, and comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead the development of bids and proposals for external funding, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Foundation to ensure they reflect strategic priorities, with accurate budgets and impact measures.
  • Build and maintain excellent relations with supporters. Provide regular reporting on the use of funds and impact achieved. Ensure that supporters have opportunities to meaningfully engage with our work through visits and volunteering opportunities.
  • Ensure that all fundraising activities are conducted in line with our values and agreed policies, including undertaking appropriate due diligence on donors.
  • Manage a team of fundraising and business development specialists, providing them with the clarity and support to enable them to do their best work. This includes setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, coaching, and agreeing on personal development plans.
  • Ensure that prospecting, applications, stewardship, and management of funding are recorded on our CRM (Salesforce).
  • Represent the Raspberry Pi Foundation to external audiences and stakeholders as required.

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity with the mission to enable young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies. You can read more about us on our careers page.

Established in 2008 and first known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed education programmes, learning experiences, and products that are helping millions of young people learn vital new knowledge and skills

Through Code Club, we support the world’s largest network of free informal computing clubs for young people. Tens of thousands of educators have taken our online courses, and millions of people use our free online learning resources. To deepen our understanding of how young people learn about computing and how to create with digital technologies, we conduct academic research, and we use that knowledge to increase the impact of our work and advance the field of computing education.

Across all of our work, we work hard to engage young people who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing or who experience educational disadvantage. We work all over the world, with teams based in the UK, Ireland, North America, and India, and partnerships with mission-aligned organisations in over 40 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global movement to help young people learn about computing and digital making. You can read more about our mission, values, and goals in our Annual Review 2023 and our Strategy 2022–2025.
