Summary

Join Murmuration as the Director of Product Management and lead product management efforts for Organizer, our SaaS platform for community organizing. You will manage and mentor a team of product managers, developing tools to help partners drive community impact. This role involves making key prioritization decisions, integrating product strategy with organizational objectives, and partnering with engineering and design leadership. You will also focus on team development and fostering a collaborative environment. The position requires significant experience in product leadership and management, along with strong product management skills and a bias for action. Murmuration offers a comprehensive benefits package, including full health insurance, retirement benefits, flexible PTO, and a flexible remote work environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a product leadership role
  • 2+ years of experience as a manager, including coaching, making hiring decisions, and managing reports with a range of skillsets and seniority
  • Experience developing and implementing product strategy, objectives, and metrics
  • Experience developing and nurturing team culture, balancing high expectations with high psychological safety
  • Strong product management craft with demonstrated experience working directly with users to deeply understand their problems and translate them into product requirements. You’ve learned to ask the right questions of the right people at the right time in the development cycle
  • Technical competence sufficient to support positive-sum engagement with engineering leadership on staffing and architectural decisions
  • Experience implementing a range of approaches to managing product development work, including different software development and planning processes
  • A bias for action and an entrepreneurial, proactive mindset: the ability to thrive working in fast-paced environments (e.g., startup or similar)
  • Strong judgment and analytical skills, including the ability to understand business requirements, integrate qualitative and quantitative metrics, and reconcile short-term needs with long-term strategic goals

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and empathetically lead a team of product managers, maintaining a culture that balances high standards and clear feedback with trust and empathy
  • Make difficult prioritization judgment calls, leveraging 80-20 thinking to help the team stay laser-focused on the most critical initiatives and maintaining oversight of backlogs across the development team
  • Integrate product strategy and organizational objectives into a high-level roadmap, quarterly development goals, and key metrics
  • Partner with engineering leadership on decisions related to staffing, architecture, and platform-wide questions of SLO, standards, and thresholds
  • Partner with design leadership to streamline and evolve product operations, implementing tools, processes, and workflows that empower the Product Management Team to work efficiently while fostering creativity and collaboration
  • Up-level the team on product management craft, including integrating user research, user analytics, and market research to inform prioritization decisions, validate assumptions, and keep user value at the center of our decision-making process
  • Design and lead a communication and collaboration framework with cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring that product managers get the information they need to make strong decisions and that teams across the organization have the information they need about the roadmap
  • Drive alignment in the face of tension or differing perspectives – in part, by earning the respect and trust necessary to inspire commitment when consensus is lacking
  • Mentor and empower team members to help them reach their career goals, identifying opportunities to tailor responsibilities, assignments, and training to the areas where each individual is most interested in learning and growing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with campaigns, advocacy organizations/nonprofits and/or existing products in the political or issue advocacy ecosystem
  • Previous startup experience
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams developing technical/backend/data architecture, like APIs or ETL pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with user-centered design (i.e., wireframing, storyboarding, and user flow development)
  • Experience in profile-based systems (like CRMs), especially related to audience segmentation and analysis
  • Data-competence: conceptual familiarity with data architecture and the ability to get hands-on with databases and data analysis (e.g., SQL/NoSQL)

Benefits

  • Health, vision, and dental insurance with 100% of premiums covered for you and qualifying family members
  • Retirement benefits with a 5% employer match
  • A flexible unlimited PTO plan
  • Generous paid parental leave
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • A company laptop
  • A flexible remote work environment
  • A home office setup stipend for all new employees
  • Monthly reimbursement for remote work expenses
  • A yearly professional development fund
  • Mental health and wellness benefits through Calm and Better Help
  • Yearly in-person staff retreats
  • A welcoming culture that celebrates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
