Summary

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist supports the Human Resources department under the supervision of the Manager, Payroll & Benefits. Duties include processing payroll accurately, ensuring compliance with regulations, assisting with leave of absence and benefits, and performing administrative tasks. The ideal candidate possesses in-depth knowledge of payroll systems, HRIS, and timekeeping software, along with 3-5 years of experience in a Generalist role. A Bachelorโ€™s degree in HR or Business and active HR certification are also required.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing systems, HRIS, and timekeeping software
  • 3-5 years of Generalist experience that includes payroll processing. Multi-state payroll processing is desirable
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in HR or Business or active HR certification (SHRM or PHR)
  • Working knowledge of employment law, payroll regulations, and tax compliance
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits such as health insurance, COBRA, 401(k), etc
  • Working knowledge of Leave of Absence such as FMLA, PDL, CFRA, SDI, and PFL
  • Familiarity with workersโ€™ compensation (incident documentation and claims)
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines are necessary
  • Must be meticulous, committed to accuracy, and self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently
  • Good interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines are necessary
  • Must have a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Strong general computer skills are necessary along with a competent, working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and the Internet

Responsibilities

  • Accurately process payroll on a regular schedule
  • Verify and reconcile timekeeping data, deductions, and changes to ensure accurate calculations
  • Advise staff of payroll deadlines and processes
  • Address payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies promptly and professionally
  • Process wage garnishments as required by court/government order
  • Maintain payroll worksheets and census spreadsheets
  • Complete payroll related journal entries and submit to accounting
  • Assist in year-end audits for Workerโ€™s Comp, EEO-1, EEO, CA Pay Data, Ohio True Up, or any other audits that arise throughout the year
  • Process employee terminations and ensure final pay and benefits are accurately calculated and processed
  • Prepare exit letters and any required documents and send to terminating employees as advised
  • Process SDI, UI, and PDL claims
  • Complete employment verifications as requested and process NYSIF documents on an annual basis
  • Process Registered Agent renewals and Annual Renewal Business applications
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to support department and organizational needs

Benefits

  • This is a hybrid position. In office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, remote Wednesday and Friday
  • Compensation is $30-33 per hour, non-exempt
